BOSNIA HERZEGOVINA

Bosnia and Herzegovina is a bridge between East and West located in the heart of Southeast Europe. Bosnia and Herzegovina has a long and exciting history. It has witnessed conquerors who, while struggling to gain control over the country, rather assimilated and created a land which now stands for a symbol of coexistence of communities from diverse cultural, ethnic and religious backgrounds. Therefore, most cities imprison the medieval, Ottoman, and the Austro-Hungarian architectural design harmoniously intertwined in various buildings, and sacral and cultural monuments.

B&H is known as a host of the 14th Winter Olympic Games (1984) which took place on mountains nested around Sarajevo, capital of B&H, and a place where WWI commenced with assassination of the Austro-Hungarian heir to the throne - Franz Ferdinand.

Winter, Spa, Rafting, Hunting, Fishing and Camping

Green rugged plateaus and mountains cover over 50% of the territory and form rich flora and fauna and significant number of endemic species. The tallest point, reaching 2,386 meters, is Maglic Mt. The south and southwest feature the Karst which contains numerous caves (Vjetrenica Cave). The coastline (Neum), covering 20 kilometres, spreads along the Adriatic Sea and creates strong influence of the Mediterranean climate to the country.

Mountains are often adequate for both beginner and advanced skiers, and are also attractive to hikers and nature lovers. Olympic Mountains - Jahorina, Bjelasnica and Igman are ultimate holiday resorts only 30 min drive from Sarajevo.

Apart from mountain tourism popular throughout a year, visitors are lured by rafting and camping on the rivers of Una, Vrbas, Neretva and Tara, fishing in crystal clear lakes and rivers, hiking through canyons (Rakitnica) and natural and national parks (Sutjeska, Kozara, Una) or hunting in the Posavina region. Bosnia and Herzegovina also has a long spa tradition as it is rich in thermal springs first used by the Romans. There are over 15 spas in the country (Reumal in Fojnica, Slatina in Banja Luka, Banja Vrućica in Teslić, etc). Tuzla, city of salt, is the only European city that has artificial salt lakes in the centre of the city. Both lakes are nested around Archaeological Neolithic park
