Paris stands out from its rivals due to its well-balanced, abundant and eclectic accommodation offer - from luxury palaces to small local hotels, from big chain hotels to charming design hotels.
Hotel residences, Bed & Breakfasts, youth hostels andfurnished apartment rentals complete the offer. Since 2009, French hotels and tourist residences have been re-classified- from 1* to 5*, according to 246 criteria. 77% of Parisian hotels are ranked 2* or 3*. Since June 2011, establishments that are truly exceptional are awarded the prestigious distinction Palace'.
Paris has 82,000 hotel rooms from small family-run establishments to 5-star luxury hotels - and over 20,000 furnished apartments, including 5,000 in apartment hotels, 5,300 beds for young people, 1 campsite with 585 pitches and around 600 Bed and Breakfasts (some of which have been awarded the Hôtes Qualité Paris' label by the City of Paris - www.hqp.fr).
Paris's luxury accommodation offer is being renovated and developed, notably with the arrival of major chains from Asia. Parisian hotels have a high occupancy level, but remain competitive compared with 20 major world tourist cities, in the mid-price range. In order to meet the increase in demand, the City of Paris plans to create 7,000 new guest rooms (notably in large capacity 2* and 3* hotels) between now and 2020.
Paris Region has the largest capacity of the world with 150,000 rooms, including 81,500 rooms in central Paris in nearly 1,600 hotels, as well as 21,000 beds in apartment hotels and youth accommodation.
