Visa Information

Depending on the nationality of the delegates and the duration of their stay in France, it may be necessary for them to obtain a visa before leaving. In this case, visitor should apply to the French consulate in their country.

  • For citizens of the EU, the EEA and Switzerland only the ID card is necessary for travel (Schengen agreement)
  • For the other countries, there are two kinds of visas:
    • Short-stay (90 days or less)
    • Long-stay (more than 90 days)
  • For business travellers, the short-stay visa is required.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of the Interior have instructed the diplomatic and consular network to increase, where possible, the number of short-stay visas delivered, as well as their validity period. These visas allow their holders to repeatedly enter and leave the Schengen area without having to apply for a new visa for each journey. Their validity period, between 6 months and 5 years, enables those in possession of them to stay in France and the Schengen area for a maximum of 90 days per 6 months period.

Convinced of the need for a balanced policy on visas, the ministers are constantly working on new measures aimed at improving the welcome for visa applicants but also simplifying and streamlining the application process for those with skills that are in demand in France.
