The Chicago Transit Authority The CTA greatly reduces emissions by replacing the equivalent of about 400,000 vehicles each weekday. Many L' cars are equipped with an innovative braking system that transfers electricity back to the third rail, supplementing power to nearby trains. The CTA operates more than 200 hybrid buses achieving 20 per cent greater fuel efficiency, and subways and various platforms have been retrofitted with energy-efficient lighting.
